One of the “chores” I dread most is menu planning. I cannot stress how much I hate it. Each week I sit down to plan out seven dinners, and I swear we have recently eaten every recipe I’ve ever pinned to my Pinterest boards and every recipe in every cookbook I own. All 1,067 recipes. We. Just. Had! Then, I discovered something brilliant. So simple, and so brilliant.
Awhile ago I read a post that contained a truly life-changing tidbit: have each family member plan a dinner for the week. I took this little piece of amazing-ness and did absolutely nothing with it. I thought about it from time-to-time, but implement it, I did not… until this week. On Sunday I asked each person in my family to give me one dinner idea. In 5 minutes my menus were planned. Five measly little minutes. Not hours. Five minutes. Because I don’t want hamburgers every night for dinner, I implemented these two rules:
- You may not choose the same meal someone else has chosen
- You may not choose a meal we have had in the past month
(Insert your favorite version of the Hallelujah Chorus here.)
In order to keep track of the menus we have planned I am using two printables:
- A weekly menu plan
- A monthly calendar to keep track of what we’ve already had… AKA: Proof that we, indeed, have already had hamburgers this month.

Weekly Menu Plan
Monthly Menu Tracker
I’m using the same calendar template for tracking our monthly menus as I did with my blogging ideas.
Look at some the the yummy food we’ve been eating!
Do you have any ideas that make menu planning easier? Because if you do, I would LOVE to hear about them!
