If you are looking for a unique nightstand idea, you have come to the right place. Below are ten bedside tables that use common items for a simple way to display and organize your essentials.

I’m a procrastinator. There. I said it. Nine months ago I shared a post about my goals for redoing our master bedroom (you can find that post here). Fast-forward to the beginning of this month, and the room remained untouched. I plan to remedy the situation. One thing I really want to do is update our bedroom furniture… I plan to paint the cedar chest and dresser (Update: this has been done and you can find the dresser makeover here.), but I am so over our clunky nightstands. I want something a little lighter (and not just lighter in color; lighter in design). I scoured the internet and found some amazingly unique nightstand ideas using everything from ladders to laundry baskets. Have a look.

Simple DIY Nightstands

A little rope and a painted piece of wood is all that’s needed for this simple hanging nightstand.

This tutorial is actually meant to be a coffee table, but by reducing the size of the wood top, it would make for the perfect nightstand.

I actually converted a card catalog into a place for my son to keep his football and baseball cards, but in order to elevate it, I added hairpin legs like the ones below. I love this idea for a smaller table to create a whimsy feel.

It’s so fun to take one object and create something completely different with it. This is actually a laundry basket, turned upside down, with a wooden top attached.

Nightstands Using Common Household Items

I absolutely love the rustic simplicity of this wooden step ladder. If you don’t own one, they are a common find at garage sales and antique shops.

I always think of these carts as holding craft supplies, but what a great idea for a bedside table. Perfect for holding books, blankets and nightly essentials.

If you can find some old trunks or suitcases while shopping the antique stores, stack them to create a unique nightstand.

What could be simpler than a stump? What a great way to bring the outdoors in to create a fun bedside table.

Another great idea! A simple painted wooden stool repurposed as a nightstand.

These wooden crates can be found in many craft stores. Add a coat of paint, stack them up, and you have the perfect nightstand.
