Dropps provided me with laundry and dishwasher pods for review. Compensation was provided for my time. All opinions in this Dropps review represent my own, honest experience.
I am typically one that makes my own cleaning products. I like knowing exactly what is in everything I’m using around my home, and laundry detergent is no exception. I have made my own laundry detergent for years. But I’m not gonna lie… I have seen many people rave about Dropps laundry pods over the past few months, and I have been tempted to give them a try after seeing a few things that intrigued me:
- Dropps actually lists their ingredients (unlike so many cleaning products). Not only that, their laundry pods get a great rating from the EWG (an A for their unscented laundry pods and a B for their Clean Scent laundry pods; which is the one I tried)
- Dropps uses essential oils for scent vs “fragrance” in their laundry pods
- They are environmentally conscience, using compostable packaging and carbon neutral shipping
- The cost is less than brand-name laundry detergent pods in the store. Depending on how you make a purchase, the cost of Dropps laundry pods are as little as 23.5¢ per load. While this may look comparable, other brands advise using up to 3 pods if you are washing a larger load of laundry.
A few months ago Dropps contacted me, asking if I would be willing to try their product and post a review. Since I was already eyeing them, I was excited to give them a try. Not only did they send over laundry pods, they also sent dishwasher pods, so I’ll let you know my thoughts on both.
Each package of laundry detergent and dishwasher detergent came with two boxes of pods. I used one full box prior to providing this review so I could see how each performed with weeks of use.

The first thing I had to do was choose which scent of Dropps Laundry Pods I wanted to try: Clean & Crisp, Lavender Eucalyptus, or Unscented. I am a-okay with essential oils being used as a fragrance, so I went with Clean & Crisp, which uses orange and fir essential oils for scent. If you (or anyone in your family) has sensitive skin, the unscented version is recommended.
Storage
The pods come in cardboard packaging that can be recycled after use and I chose to keep my pods in the cardboard boxes while trying them out; my only concern being that I didn’t want the membrane to get any moisture on it which could cause the pods to stick together.
UPDATE: After my initial trial, I now store them in a covered glass jar and have had no issues with the pods sticking together; even in the hot, humid months of the year.
How to Use Dropps Laundry Pods
The use of Dropps laundry pods could not be easier. You simply load up your washer (whether front-loading or top-loading) and add one laundry pod into the drum. Then wash your laundry on your typical wash setting.
My clothes came out clean, and smelling fresh, but not over-powering.
Pros & Cons of Dropps Laundry Pods
I typically write up a pros and cons list when I review products. I think it’s a helpful way to see both the positives and the “not so greats”, but I can honestly say that I don’t have anything negative to say about this product. I love that it’s environmentally-friendly, the price is appropriate, there is a list of ingredients available, and the laundry detergent works.

Dropps Review: Dishwasher Pods
While I have been making my own laundry detergent for years, I have never tried making my own dishwasher detergent. Honestly, I have seen too many people try various recipes and end up with cloudy dishes. While I love homemade, I don’t want to sacrifice clean.
I was actually surprised to see dishwasher pods in my package sent from Dropps. I thought I was just trying out the laundry detergent, but I was happy to give the dishwasher pods a try as well.
I did look up the EWG rating on the lemon version of Dropps dishwasher pods (which is what I received), and it was given C. The dishwasher detergent I had been using received a D. So… a step up. The lemon version does have “fragrance” listed in the ingredients, so I am not sure what was used to create their scent, however, the unscented version of their dishwasher pods has no fragrance listed, if you’d prefer to go that route.
Storage
Again, the dishwasher pods come in the same packaging as the laundry detergent. I chose to keep them in the cardboard box to avoid any moisture build-up so the pods wouldn’t stick together. However, I have kept other dishwasher pods in an air-tight glass canister, and that seems to work well (and looks a little more attractive on the counter 🙂 ).
UPDATE: Once again, after the initial trial, I did move my dishwasher pods to a glass container with a clasp lid, which worked without issue.
How to Use Dropps Dishwasher Pods
You just pop one pod into the detergent compartment of your dishwasher, and select your wash setting.
Let me start by saying that I am a firm believer that you should not have to pre-rinse your dishes before you put them into the dishwasher. Dishwasher detergent is made up of enzymes that are supposed to break down food, so unless something has been sitting there for days, and has dried to a stuck-on mess, I truly believe your dishwasher detergent should do the job of removing that food.
Can I be honest with you? I didn’t think the Dropps dishwasher pods would work as well as the previous brand I was using. I mean, my previous brand had all these added rinse aids and blah, blah, blah, so I wasn’t super confident Dropps would be able to clean as well.
I was wrong. Like, really wrong.
Dropps dishwasher pods worked just as well as my “bells and whistles” brand.
Pros & Cons of Dropps Dishwasher Pods
Pros:
- For starters… they work! My dishes were clean with no white residue whatsoever.
- They are cheaper than the dishwasher pods I was using
- The company packages their dishwasher pods in small cardboard packaging that can be recycled and they do a lot to make sure they are caring for the environment.
Cons:
- I’m not a fan of vague ingredients, like “fragrance”. The lemon version of their dishwasher pods does list fragrance as an ingredient, however, their unscented version doesn’t list any added fragrance, so that may be a better option.
How To Purchase Dropps Dishwasher Pods
